Lok Sabha adjourned on Quattrocchi issue

New Delhi, Mar 1: The Lok Sabha was today adjourned for 30 minuteswhen the BJP-led Opposition disrupted the proceedings on theQuattrocchi issue.

As soon as the house assembled for the day, BJP Deputy FloorLeader V K Malhotra was on his feet demanding that Prime MinisterManmohan Singh be asked to make a statement on the detention andrelease on bail of Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi, an accusedin the Bofors kickbacks case.

Sensing the mood of the Opposition, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee adjourned the house for 30 minutes till 1130 hrs.

Quattrocchi was detained by Interpol in Argentina on February six. He was subsequently released on bail.

The Quattrocchi issue has been rocking both houses of Parliament ever since the Budget session began last week.
