Dubai construction workers demand hike in salary

Dubai, Mar 1: Over 400 construction workers, mostly Indians,blocked Dubai's main arterial road, demanding an increment in theirdaily wages.

The construction workers, demanding their daily wage of 25 Dhiramsbe incresed to 27 Dhirams, stopped work at their sites yesterday andblocked traffic on Shaikh Zayed Road, thereby causing a huge trafficjam during peak hours.

The workers, however, dispersed after police intervened andreferred their demands to the Permanent Committee for Labour Affairs.

The Committee asked them to choose five representatives from amongthem to discuss the issue with both the company and the authorities.
