Blast in southeast Turkey kills 1 child
Diyarbakir (Turkey), Mar 1: One child has died in an explosion in Siirt in Turkey's troubled southeast, security officials said today.
The source of yesterday's blast was not immediately clear, officials told Reuters, although broadcaster NTV said an eight-year-old child died in what they said was a mine explosion.
The outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) has waged an armed campaign for an ethnic homeland in southeast Turkey since 1984.
Turkey blames the PKK for the deaths of more than 30,000 people.
