PARIS, Feb 28 (Reuters) Two Picasso paintings valued at 50 million euros were stolen this week from the Paris home of the Spanish painter's granddaughter, Diana Widmaier Picasso, police said today.

The paintings were stolen in the night of Monday to Tuesday by robbers who broke into her apartment in the smart seventh arrondissement of the French capital.

A police spokesman said the two stolen paintings were the ''Maya a la poupee'' (Maya with doll) from 1938, and ''Portrait de femme, Jacqueline''.

The investigation is being handled by the police's organised crime division. The spokesman said there was no obvious sign of a break in at the apartment.
