Tiwari submits resignation; will continue as caretaker CM

Dehra Dun, Feb 28 (UNI) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari today submitted his resignation to Governor Sudarshan Agarwal following the Congress' defeat in the recently held Assembly election in the state.

Bharatiya Janata Party has emerged as the single largest party in the state assembly with 34 out of 69 seats for which election were held.

Election for Bajpur Constituency in Uddhamsingh Nagar district was deferred due to the death of Congress candidate and is slated to be held on March 25.

Mr Tiwari had taken over as the chief minister in 2002.

In the recently held Assembly elections, Congress won 21 seats, while Mr Tiwari did not contest the election.

Mr Tiwari would continue in office as the caretaker chief minister till the formation of the new government.
