Monica's case: Witnesses' statement recorded

Bhopal, Feb 27 (UNI) A local court today recorded statements of two witnesses in connection with a fake passports case in which underworld don Abu Salem and his starlet-girlfriend Monica Bedi stand accused.

In his statement before Chief Judicial Magistrate Raveendra Singh's court, travel agent Mahendra Sharma said he had played no role in getting the fake passports made.

The statement of another witness, police inspector S K Tiwari, was also recorded.

Monica was present in the court.

Recording of statements of the then passports officer A Lakda and clerk Indu Nayar was scheduled for today but their absence prevented the court from doing so.

Ms Nayar had been transferred to Cochin, while Mr Lakda was not in the town.

Yesterday, the court had rejected a defence application seeking converting of new witnesses as co-accused in the case under section 319 of the IPC.

The next hearing will take place on March 2.
