Gunmen kill brothers of prominent Iraqi politician
BAGHDAD, Feb 28 (Reuters) Gunmen killed two brothers of a prominent Sunni politician today in the insurgent stronghold of Muqdadiya, north of Baghdad, police and the politician said.
The moderate lawmaker Saleem al-Jubouri, spokesman for the largest Sunni political bloc in parliament, told Reuters his brothers, Fuad and Ahmed, were killed instantly when gunmen opened fire on them in his volatile home province of Diyala.
Insurgents have regularly targeted politicians and their relatives as part of a campaign against the US-backed government in Baghdad. It was not immediately clear which group was behind the attack on Jubouri's brothers.
