French food minister visits Amul

Ahmedabad, Feb 28 (UNI) French minister for food processing Nicolas Forissier visited Anand today to have an overview of the co-operative dairy development in India.

The delegation comprised CEOs of leading French companies including Dabon, Elecrem, Novasep and Inra besides officials from the French embassy, a Amul release here today said.

Mr Forissier appreciated the Amul model and called it a unique example of development wherein the stress is on marketing along with procurement and processing unlike other developmental models which stress on production and procurement. He praised the efforts of the farmers of Gujarat for creating such a vibrant organisation, the release said.

After visitng Amul, the delegation came to the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the apex body of 2.5 million milk producers of Guajrat and India's largest food products marketing organisation. Wide-ranging talks were held with Mr B M Vyas, managing director and other officials of GCMMF, the release said.

On his way back he also visited a village dairy co-operative society, the release added.
