British soldier shot dead in Iraq

LONDON, Feb 28 (Reuters) A British soldier was killed by gunfire while on patrol in Iraq's second city Basra, the Ministry of Defence said today.

The family of the soldier, from the 2nd Battalion The Rifles, had been informed of his death, it said, but did not identify him. He died of serious wounds from small arms fire while on a routine patrol.
