Backward regions fund allocation increased

New Delhi, Feb 28: Finance Minister P Chidambaram today proposed to increase the allocation for Backward Regions Grant Fund to Rs 5800 crore from Rs 5000 crore.

Presenting the 2007-08 Budget proposals in the Lok sabha Mr Chidambaram said this would finance two components- one pertaining to 250 districts and the other pertaining to special plan for Bihar. Koraput-Bolangir-Kalahandi (KBK) districts of Orissa which are included in the 250 districts would continue to receive the same quantum of assistance as they have been receiving in the past, he added.
