TDP, Cong candidates get elected to Legislative Council

Vijayawada, Feb 27 (UNI) Mr Ilapuram Venkaiah (Cong) and Mr Yelamanchili Babu Rajendra Prasad (TDP) have been declared elected unopposed to the legislative council from the Krishna District Local Authorities Constituency (LAC).

Krishna District Joint Collector and Returning Officer S Suresh Kumar made the declaration after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended last evening.

Mr Venkaiah and Mr Prasad were elected without contest.

The joint collector handed over the certificate of election to the two candidates in the presence of leaders of respective political parties.

The results became clear on the last date of the filing of nominations on February 22 when no other serious candidate filed papers.

Speaking to reporters, Mr Venkaiah said he would strive for the welfare of the backward classes in general and the kummari community in particular.

Mr Prasad vowed to fight for strengthening of local bodies and securing grants for their effective functioning.
