BJP submits memorandum to Governor on GO 938

Hyderabad, Feb 27 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh unit Bharatiya Janata Party today urged Governor Rameshwar Thakur to intervene and advise the state government to refrain from ''politics of vendetta.'' The BJP delegation, led by its state President Bandaru Dattatreya, met the Governor at Raj Bhavan here and submitted a memorandum urging him to seek a report on circumstances which led to release and subsequent withdrawal of the controversial GO 938 which endorsed a check on defamatory and baseless media reports.

In the memorandum, they alleged the state was witnessing undeclared emergency for the past some time as the government, headed by Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, 'unleashed unprecedented repressive measures' against the press and all those opposing the government.

They alleged the Chief Minister, in particular, had been antagonistic to press.

The delegation further alleged the Chief Minister developed animosity towards 'Eenadu' newspaper after the daily ''exposed his government's misdeeds.'' With a view to attack the finances of the paper, the government intervened in the Margadarsi Financiers issue under the pretext of protecting depositors.

They also urged the Governor to instruct the government not to meddle with the company and leave the issue to be tackled under the supervision of the Reserve Bank of India.
