Bengal Governor condoles Tuhin Samanta's death

Kolkata, Feb 27 (UNI) West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi has expressed his "profound grief" over the death of Kalyani University professor Tuhin Samanta following skirmishes over a school committee's election at Katwa in Burdwan district last Sunday.

In his condolence message today to Mr Samanta's wife from Darjeeling, Mr Gandhi said, '' I have learnt with great sorrow of your husband's death after being shot at on February 25. Stern action will be taken against the person responsible.'' The governor also futher said, '' Your loss is indeed beyond consoling, however, I do hope that exemplary action will be taken against the guilty and I note that such action is already underway.'' Incidentally, the Governor is presently in on an official visit to Darjeeling.
