Advocates boycott courts
Chennai, Feb 27 (UNI) Practising advocates at the Egmore Metropolitan Magistrate Courts today began an indefinite boycott of courts to condemn a lawyer's arrest a couple of days back and demanding dropping cases against 25 other advocates.
Police sources said the advocates raised slogans and held a demonstration in the court premises before staging a road roko. The agitators also resolved to take out a rally to Madras High Court on the issue.
Trouble began on February 25 when an advocate owing allegiance to the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) was arrested in connection with a case.
When he was brought to the Egmore Court for remand, the 25 advocates protested.
They also allegedly snatched remand report and FIR from the police and tore it up.
The enraged advocates also allegedly attacked a sub-inspector and pelted stones at police vehicles damaging two jeeps.
Following this, police registered cases against 25 advocates.
