Rajya Sabha adjourned over Bofors issue

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Within minutes of its meeting, the Rajya Sabha was today adjourned for three hours following an uproar created by the Opposition over the Bofors issue.

As soon as the House assembled at 1100 hrs, Samajwadi Party members stood up demanding early extradition of Ottavio Quattrocchi, the accused in the Bofors case.

They were soon joined in by the BJP and Shiv Sena and other NDA Members who rushed into the well of the House raising slogans against the Congress-led UPA governent.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Pachauri and other Congress members also got up to retort to the Opposition charges. In the ensuing din nothing was audible.

Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat tried to pacify them but the Members continued with their sloganeering. Finally, Mr Shekhawat announced adjournment of the House till 1400 hrs.
