Newly elected Councillors sworn in

Chennai, Feb 26 (UNI) The newly elected councillors of the Chennai Corporation, except four DMDK members, were sworn in today.

The Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni administered the oath of office in the presence of Deputy Mayor R Sathyabama.

Councillor Sardar, who had defected to DMK after getting elected in DMDK ticket from Ward 27, also took oath.

The former Mayor M Subramanian, who was elected unopposed, was the first to take the oath.

Later speaking to newspersons here, Mr Lakhoni said 96 councillors took oath. Four councillors from DMDK founded by actor-politician Vijayakanth, did not turn up. They had sent a fax message, intimating that they would take oath on February 28.

The election for the post of Chennai Corportion Mayor would be held on March one. Mr Subramanian has been re-nominated as the DMK candidate for the post.
