Five killed in suspected terrorist attack in Chechnya

Moscow, Feb 26 (UNI) Five police officers were killed and an unspecified number were injured when suspected terrorists carried out a blast at apolice base in Chechnya.

A source in the Southern Federal District's Law Enforcement Services told Interfax news agency today that a blast took place at the Chechen Interior Ministry base in the Gudermes district.

The report of the blast was further confirmed by the Chechen Interior Ministry spokesman Magomed Deniyev and said a blast had been reported at a police base in the village of Oiskhar in the Gudermes district, adding, ''The incident is under investigation.'' Meanwhile, the blast occurred despite Russian leaders' frequent claims that terrorists have been eliminated from war-affected Chechnya.

The Chechen separatists have been carrying out frquent attacks on the federal forces from their mountain hideouts.
