This was decided at a meeting of the Congress coordination Committee, held under the chairmanship of State party in charge Ashok Gehlot.

Mr Gehlot said the names of prospective candidates for the various wards in Delhi, sent by the district and block committees, would also be seriously considered in deciding candidates for the polls.

The meeting was attended by Congress MPs from Delhi Kapil Sibal, Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, DPCC Chief Ram Babu Sharma, Congress leaders Krishna Tirath, Raj Kumar Chauhan and A K Walia, vbesides other members of the coordination committee.

Talking to mediapersons after the meeting, Mr Sharma said a committee would be set up to scrutinise the applications candidature for the 272 MCD wards for which polls are to be held on April 5.

He said it was also decided that the condition of depositing a fee with each application for contesting in the polls be waived as doing so would enable people from even the middle and lower strata of society to contest the MCD polls.
