BJP anquished about release of Quattrocchi

New Delhi, Feb 26: The BJP today expressed its anguish about the release of the arrested Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi, accused in the Bofors payoff scam, by the Argentinian police on the ground that Indian authorities did not furnish enough evidence to detain him any longer.

The party said the release was on the condition that Quattrocchi shall not leave Argentina and the government should do everything to bring him back to India.

BJP Spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said the release of Mr Quattrocchi was not a simple issue and the authorities were holding him since February six. It was 'curious' that they had suddenly released him, he said.

Since India has a valid extradition treaty with Argentina, the CBI should make all effort to get him back to face the law and face the law and Indian Courts, he said.
