Devyani, Aishwarya Singh wedding reception a gala affair
New Delhi, Feb 25 (UNI) It was an assembly of glitterati at the residence here of Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh for the gala wedding reception of his grandson, Aishwarya Singh and Devyani Rana, the niece of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje.
The event last night at 17, Akbar Road, was attended by several dignitaries, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur as well as the Royalty of Nepal.
Deviyani Rana donned family wedding attire and traditional jewellery and Aishwaraya a moss green sherwani and blue bandhej Safa-- a headgear in Rajasthani style. The bride, who had earlier been engaged to the late Nepal Crown Prince Dipendra, wore a bright orange lehnga.
Deviyani is the daughter of Pashupati Shamser Jung Bahadur Rana, a member of the influential aristocratic family of Nepal and a former Minister.
Others in tow included Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath, former Union Minister Karan Singh and former Maharaja of Jodhpur Gaj Singh.
The venue was done up in red, silver and gold.The trees in the lawn of the house were lighted.
The light chill of winter added to the bright occasion.
The food served included vegetarian and non-vegetarian delights, with some special dishes having been prepared by the well-known chef Jiggs Kalra.
The speciality dishes included those from Hyderabad, Amritsar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
A large number of foreigners were present,for many of whom it was a first time experience to witness an Indian wedding.
A services band, classical music and Hindi songs delighted the gathering.
