Congress to launch statewide agitation from April

Kolkata, Feb 25 (UNI) Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi today announced that the West Bengal Congress will launch a statewide agitation from April against the alleged faulty industrial policy of the ruling Left Front.

Addressing a rally of party workers here, Mr Dasmunsi and several other party leadedrs, including former city Mayor Subrata Mukherjee and former party MLA Abdul Mannan, made a scathing attack on the CPI(M)-led ruling Left Front and alleged that the latter was blindly pursuing an anti-farmer industrial policy without realising its devastating consequences.

Lambasting the Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee government for allegedly suppressing facts behind the acquisition of farmland and the compensation package in Singur and in some other areas in the name of industrial programme, the Union Minister and all other speakers also demanded the publication of a white paper by the government on the issue to clear all doubts.

The Mukherjee reiterating his wholehearted opposition towards the Tata Motors' proposed small car unit at Singur even threatened to quit politics if the proposed plant finally came up at Singur.

Mr Dasmunsi said though their statewide agitational programme would be basically peaceful in nature, the youth Congress activists would not be afraid of standing against any repressive measure taken by local administation.

As part of the agitation, numerous rallies, meetings and dharnas would be organised at the block level in every district, he said and urged the state government to rectify its mistakes for the sake of the common people.

Before the start of the rally, a number of processions of party workers, not only from the city and its negihbouring districts but also from North Bengal, converged at the rally ground, throwing the traffic in Central Kolkata partially out of gear and thereby causing inconvenience to the people.
