BJP panel on land acquisition law: Venkaiah
Chennai, Feb 25 (UNI) BJP President Rajnath Singh has appointed a committee under the leadership of Party Senior Leader M Venkaiah Naidu to study farmers problems with regard to land acquisition for various public and private projects across the country.
Informing this to press persons here today, Mr Naidu said the seven-member committee would study the land acquisition act and suggest amendments which would not only benefit the farmers but also provide for the proper rehabilitation of displaced people.
''The committee will also invite public opinion on the issue,'' he said, adding, ''the members would also study the practices adopted by various state governments and submit a comprehensive report to the Centre for amending the law.'' The committee members besides from Mr Naidu were Mr Yashwant Sinha (convenor), Mr Gopinath Munde, Mr Sahib Singh Verma, Mr Ramdas Aggarwal, Mr Kirit Somaya and Mr Vinod Pandey.
Mr Naidu also said while thrust should be on setting up industries and carrying out developmental activities, at the same time farmers had to compensated well when land was acquired from them.
