Arunachal gets its chemotherapy centre

Itanagar, Feb 25 (UNI) Arunachal Cancer Society (ACS) has converted its cancer wing into a full-fledged day care chemotherapy centre in General Hospital premises here.

This would bring the much needed relief to cancer patients in the state, sais health services director Dr P P Chaliha in inaugural address yesterday, adding that ACS deserves to be appreciated for providing free consultation to the patients through this day care centre.

The ACS was founded by Dr K K Dey to provide respite to patients who suffer emotional and mental agony due to cancer, said Dr Moji Jini, chief medical officer of the hospital.

Senior surgical specialist Dr Mari Basar, trained in cancer surgery from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, highlighted the latest treatment techniques and surgeries conducted in the hospital during the last five years. Radiotherapy facility is a must for a cancer unit, he added.

Oncologist Dr S Tsering briefed the mediapersons about the cancer wing, which has so far administered chemotherapy to 83 patients and registered 114 cases in last five months.
