School teacher held

Nadiad, Feb 24 (UNI) Police have arrested a school teacher for allegedly causing serious head injuries to an eight-year-old student at village Kapadwanj in Kheda district.

Sources in the Kapadwanj Police Station said the teacher, Narendra Patel, of Government School beat Arbaj Malick (studying in Standard III), when he sought permission from Patel to go to a mosque for 'namaaz' yesterday. However, the teacher became angry and thrashed the boy, in which Arbaj sustained serious head injuries.

Later, he was rushed to the civic hospital at Ahmedabad for treatment.

Patel was apprehended last night following a complaint by the boy's father under section 337 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Police had heightened the security in the area following the incident, they added.
