President arrives in textile city
Coimbatore, Feb 24 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam arrived here today from Chennai on a two-day visit to this textile city.
He was received at the airport by Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu and District Collector Neeraj Mittal, among others.
Soon after his arrival, Dr Kalam left for Aravangadu in Nilgiris district by helicopter to attend a function at Defence Staff Training College.
He will also meet former Army Chief and Field Marshal General Manekshaw at hospital.
After attending another function at Ooty, he will return to Coimbatore to participate in the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Bharathiar University and confer the Bharathi Tamil Chemmal Award on Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
He would later inaugurate the Golden Jubilee function of the South India Textile Research Association and stay overnight at the Circuit House in Coimbatore.
Dr Kalam would leave Coimbatore for Panjim at 0845 hrs tomorrow.
