Latest technologies needed in sugarcane industry

Tirupati, Feb 24 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh State Sugar Commissioner A Vidya Sagar today stressed the need to introduce the latest technologies in the sugar industry to meet global competition.

Addressing a one-day seminar on Short Retention Juice Clarifier (SRJC) organised by the South Indian Sugarcane and Sugar Technologists Association (SISSTA) here, he said sugar factories should adopt new technologies with the involvement of cane farmers for increasing sugar cane production.

He said new technologies would save time, improve the quality of sugarcane juice, increase recovery of sugar by one per cent and also reduce cost.

Cane production in the state this year was good and steps were being taken to pay better price to farmers ranging between Rs 1150 to Rs 1215 per tonne, he added.
