CCTVs at Guwahati platforms
Guwahati, Feb 24(UNI) The N F Railway has chalked out a plan to instal close circuit television sets (CCTVs) at six important railway stations in the insurgency-affected Asom as part of its plan to augment security.
A source in the NF Railway headquarters here informed the CCTVs would be set up at New Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Lumding, Mariani, Rangiya and New Bongaigaon and tenders were floated inviting bids for the same.
The NF Railway has so far installed CCTVs at Guwahati, Dimapur and New Jalpaiguri stations that have been targeted by militants on different occasions in the past.
Meanwhile, use of sniffer dogs by Railway Protection Force (RPF) to detect explosives, if any, planted inside railway coaches and platforms in Asom has become a regular feature.
Light engines and motor trolleys equipped with explosive scanner are being used as pilot plan to detect explosives planted on the railway track. These scanners are run along the track before the arrival of every passenger train.
