30 wounded as AMU students open fire
Aligarh, Feb 24 (UNI) At least 30 persons, including 14 policemen, were grievously wounded when Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) students resorted to firing and stone pelting here today.
Police said the incident occurred in Jakria area, where a builder and an AMU student fought over a dispute, which snowballed and the students torched builder's house, several other shops and a police outpost.
Students also pelted stones at police personnel, critically injuring 14 policemen. The situation was brought under control only after police fired in the air.
Fifteen students also sustained wounds and were rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College.
According to the district administration, the situation, at present, was under control.
