Polling in Valtoha tomorrow
Chandigarh, Feb 23 (UNI) A keen contest is expected in the Valtoha Assembly constituency in Punjab where the polling is slated tomorrow.
About 1,18,796 voters will decide the electoral fortune of five candidates who are contesting the election in the constituency where polling was postponed earlier to February 24 due to the death of CPI candidate.
On February 13, polling was held in 115 of the 117 assembly segments in Punjab. Polling in Beas constituency was postponed to March 11 in the wake of violence that claimed the life of a SAD worker.
All arrangements have been made for peaceful and smooth conduct of the polling which will start from 0800 hrs and close at 1700 hrs, State Election Office here said.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made to check any untoward incident during the polling. The campaigning in the constituency ended yesterday. However, door-to-door canvassing was continuing.
Those crossing swords in the electoral battle are: Gurchet Singh (Congress), Virsa Singh (SAD), Swaran Singh (BSP), Kiran Bir Kaur (CPI) and Harchand Singh (Independent).
The Punjab Government has declared a public holiday under the Negotiable Instument Act in Valtoha constituency tomorrow to enable voters to cast their ballots.
All Government offices, Corporation and Boards offices and educational institutions in the constituency will remain closed on the account of polling.
The poll results will come along with other constituencies on February 27.
