MP starts consultations with stakeholders: Chouhan

Bhopal, Feb 23 (UNI) The BJP government had started consultations with stakeholders at different levels before effecting changes or modifications in policies, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan told the Assembly today.

Replying to the three-day debate on Governor Balram Jakhar's address to the Assembly on the opening day of the budget session on February 19, the Chief Minister said the government held consultations with youth, women, farmers, tribals, panchayat functionaries and employees to enlist their views while framing policies.

''The government had effected policy changes for the welfare of farmers after taking feedback through kisan panchayat'', Mr Chouhan said.

The house passed by a voice vote the motion of thanks on the Governor's address after rejecting all amendments.

The Assembly today met at 0900 hours as per the revised schedule to hold sittings from 0900 to 1400 hours on Fridays to enable the members for their weekend visit to their constituencies.

Elaborating several achievements of the three-year-old BJP government, Mr Chouhan said about 10 lakh hectare additional crop area would be brought under irrigation in five years with the ongoing works on eleven major projects.

''Jalabhishek Abhiyan'' launched to facilitate construction of water bodies on farmers land had helped in increasing irrigation facility. It also helped in checking deplet groundwater level and recharging water sources at many places, the Chief Minister added.

Admitting that electricity distribution infrastructure was still not upto the mark in the state, he said generation capacity was increased by 1600 megawatt in three years and several ongoing projects were nearing completion.
