Puducherry, Feb 22 (UNI) The Puducherry unit of the Desiya Murpokku Dravidar Kazhagam (DMDK) today urged the administration to shift the port development project here from the town to some rural areas.

Addressing a press conference here, Party State President V P P Velu said the project will severely hit Puducherry.

He charged Chief Minister N Rangasamy with implementing projects beneficial to people such as stadium with international standards, Legislative Assembly, medical college to his Thattanchavady Constituency and projects affecting the people such as port development, satellite town and special economic zone to other constituencies.

Mr Velu said the total cost for the construction of a hospital in New Delhi was only Rs 130 crore and wanted an explanation how the estimated cost of the government medical college building was put at Rs 230 crore.

He also demanded a white paper from the government on the spending of funds received for tsunami relief and rehabilitation. Mr Velu cautioned if the government failed to give a proper explanation, the party would organise an agitation to picket the Legislative Assembly soon.
