Quake strikes in Indonesia's Moluccas islands

Jakarta, Feb 21: An earthquake struck off the Moluccas islandsin the eastern part of Indonesia today, the country's meteorologyagency said, although there was no immediate report of a tsunamiwarning or casualties.

Indonesia's Meteorology and Geophysics Agency put the quake at 6.0on the Richter scale and said the epicentre was 34 km from Labuha townin North Moluku province.

The US Geological Survey said on its Web site that the quake'smagnitude was 5.5 and occurred at 0749 hrs with the epicentre 10 kmunder the sea.

A stronger earthquake struck the area yesterday, triggering a brief tsunami alert.
