Lucknow, Feb 21 (UNI) Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan today said that she was proud to be associated with the party, which ''carried out its promises''.

''We do what we say...I am proud to be associated with it,'' the cine star said addressing a meeting of party office bearers, MPs and MLAs here.

Referring to the present political situation in the state following Supreme Court's verdict disqualifying 13 MLAs of the ruling party who had deserted Mayawati's BSP in 2003, she said Congress would soon realise the real strength of the SP.

''Their plans to impose President's Rule in the state would backfire and they would fail in their plans,'' she asserted.

Ms Bachchan noted that initially, when the SP had invited her to join the party, her husband Amitabh Bachachan was reluctant. But when SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and party General Secretary Amar Singh persuaded him, he agreed.

''After joining the party I realised I had made a right decision,'' she said, adding that said she was still learning the trade of politics.

SP's Lok Sabha MP from Rampur Jaya Prada, who also addressed the gathering, said the party had a bright future and she was happy working under the leadership of Mr Yadav.
