Japan to provide grants to 4 NGOs in South India

Chennai, Feb 21: Japan has offered to provide a total grant of 3.35 lakh US dollars to four Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in South India for their project to uplift the lives of the disadvantaged.

The M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) and HelpAge India in the city, Mitra Jothi in Bangalore and The Dale View in Thiruvananthapuram are the four NGOs, selected by the Japanese government for the grants.

A release from the Consulate General of Japan here said a grant contract signing ceremony would be held at the Consulate General of Japan in the city on February 23.

The grant contracts would be signed between Mr Hoshiaki Kodaki, Consul General of Japan and the representatives of four NGOs.

The MSSRF had sought the assistance for a project to construct a facilitation centre in Waynad district of Kerala, where the centre had undertaken a number of activities like livelihood improvement for tribal farmers and biodiversity conservation.

The HelpAge India is being given the grant for extending mobile medicare services, counselling and rehabilitation to the elders, while Dale View would be given the grant for its de-addiction centre. Mitra Jyothi is given the assistance for providing independent skill training to visually impaired women, the release added.
