Face elelctions in UP, Left advises Congress

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) The Left parties today said the Samajwadi Party's decision to withdraw support to the UPA government will have no ''immediate impact'' on its stability and asked the Congress to face the electoral battle rather than indulging in the ''misadventure'' of clamping President's Rule in Uttar Pradesh.

Talking to UNI soon after Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav announced the withdrawl of his party's support to the Manmohan Singh government, top Left leaders said the SP's decision would definitely have a polltical impact in terms of the numbers.

CPI leaders A B Bardhan and D Raja said, ''It is just a political gesture on the part of Mr Yadav's party as it has no immediate significance.'' The CPI leaders, however, reitrated their opposition to the use of Article 356 to topple the SP government especially after the announcment of election schedule for the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.

They advised the Congress to face the electroal battle rather than thinking about ''any misadventure''.

CPI(M) senior leader and Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Salim Mohammad said the SP withdrawl of support will have no impact on the survival of the central government. ''Besides the SP was extending an outside support only. But there may be the political impact in terms of numbers.'' The CPI(M) leader also asked the Congress to face the ''political battle'' after the Election Commission had announced the schedule for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.
