All India Bank strike called off

Kolkata, Feb 21 (UNI) The proposed nationwide strike in all public sector and other banks on February 23, was called off today following an ''understanding'' between bankers and the bank unions.

Announcing the decision to withdraw the strike, Convenor of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), a conglomerate of all the seven major Bank Unions, P K Pattanaik thanked the management of Central Bank of India for sympathetically considering the fate of its 7,000 odd workmen and officers who had been chargesheeted for participating in a previous bank strike.

The proposed indefinite strike in Central Bank branches across the country from tomorrow, demanding immediate withdrawal of chargesheet against is own employees, stood cancelled in the wake of the Bank management's favourable decision, Mr Pattnaik announced.

The proposed All India strike was to be the second in this year alone to press for several demands of bank employees on various issues.
