Sri Lanka condemns Samjhauta Express attack

Colombo, Feb 20 (UNI) Sri Lanka today condemned the firebombing of the Samjhauta Express from India to Pakistan as an ''abominable act of terrorism'' that left at least 67 people killed and 50 others injured.

''This abominable act of terrorism on the Samjhuata Express which essentially is a ''peace'' train deserves the condemnation of all right thinking people,'' the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

''As a fellow South Asian nation that continues to be affected by similar acts of terror, Sri Lanka firmly takes its place with the governments and people of India and Pakistan,'' the ministry said.

Describing the terrorism as a scourge that affects many nations, the country urged the international community to deal with this ''affront to civilisation resolutely''.
