JACC withdraws proposed road blockade
Shillong, Feb 20 (UNI) The Joint Action Coordination Committee (JACC) today called off their proposed indefinite night road blockade in Meghalaya from tomorrow.
Previously, the JACC had called the strike to protest the high rate of High Security Registration Plates (HSRP).
The JACC delegation, led by its chairman A Shanpru, urged Transport Minister Manirul Islam Sarkar to reduce the rate of HSRP.
The JACC decided to withdraw the strike following an assurance from the government in this regard.
Mr Sarkar told mediapersons here that the government would review the whole contract within a period of 15 days. The whole issue would be reviewed taking all legal aspects into consideration, he added.
The contract for the issuing HSRP in the state was awarded to a company for a period of 15 years.
