Indian worker's death sparks protest in Dubai

Dubai, Feb 20 (UNI) With an Indian worker's death sparking protest against living conditions here, Indian consulate has called for the intervention of labour officials into the matter.

The 23-year-old Indian worker died of meningitis on Saturday while 24 others in the Jebel Ali camp were reported to be suffering from chicken pox, consulate officials said.

The company assured the consulate that it would provide round- the-clock monitoring and medical facilities to all the ill workers, a statement said.

Furious workers alleged the poor living conditions were responsible for the spread of diseases.

The consulate has also taken up the issue of non-payment of wages for as long as six months by two other companies.
