New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) Chief of Delhi unit of Bharatiya Janata Party Harshvardhan was today detained along with several party activists after they protested against the inauguration of a community centre at Krishna Nagar in East Delhi.

He was later released after a few hours of detention, a senior police officer said.

In a statement later, Mr Harshvardhan alleged that the protests were against Congress councillor Prem Kumar breaking the foundation stone for a swimming pool in Kanti Nagar area at the present site of the community hall.

Describing the breaking of the foundation stone as "an act of political goondaism", Dr Harshvardhan said an FIR was lodged in the Krishna Nagar Police Station in this regard.

Demanding immediate arrest and imprisonment of the Congress Councillor and his supporters who had broken the foundation stone of the swimming pool, Dr Harshvardhan warned that ''if the police do not arrest the guilty then a struggle will be started against the Congress goondaism and the connivance of police.'' BJP sources said construction of a swimming pool for the convenience of the public of Kanti Nagar area was started with the efforts of Dr Harshvardhan.

Its foundation stone was laid by then Lieutenant Governor Vijay Kapoor. The sources alleged that last night the Councillor and his supporters broke the foundation stone due to political enemity.

''The Krishna Nagar Police has registered a case on charges of damaging public property, but the guilty have not been arrested,''they said.
