Zed appointed to Regional Transportation Comsn

Reno (Nevada, USA), Feb 19: Indo-American Rajan Zed of Reno has been appointed to Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) Citizens Advisory Committee for a three-year term, renewable for another three years.

This Committee provides input on policy issues relative to public transportation, regional street and highway system, and transportation planning. RTC, founded in 1979 by legislation approved by Nevada Legislature, is responsible for public transit services; transportation network; maintaining and improving road network; and anticipating, forecasting, and planning for current and future transportation needs.

He was elected unopposed in the last US mid-term elections to the Office of General Improvement District Trustee of Verdi TV District in the state of Nevada. He was a journalist in India before migration to USA.

Rajan Zed, who serves on the Governing Board of Directors of Northern Nevada International Center, Board of Directors of Nevada World Trade Council, and Reno Police Chief's Advisory Board, is also a fellow of The Institute of Professional Managers and Administrators of Britain besides being on the Cultural Competency Action Plan Team of Washoe County School District. He has served on Editorial Board of Reno Gazette-Journal, a Gannett newspaper; Board of Directors of Washoe County Library Foundation and California State Employees Credit Union.

He has been Academic Senator in the Academic Senate of San Jose State University, California; represented College of Business Administration in the Graduate Student Association of University of Nevada-Reno; was member of the Health Curriculum Committee of Fremont Unified School District in California; and has been member of the University Planning and Budget Committee of University of Nevada-Reno. He volunteers as a Chaplain in the Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center and Hospital and other hospitals of northern Nevada and neighboring California. He is Director of Interfaith Relations for Hindu Temple of Northern Nevada and Public Relations Officer of India Association of Northern Nevada.

Zed is active in various community and professional organizations, including Society of Human Resource Management, American Society for Information Science and Technology, APICS-The Educational Society for Resource Management, The Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Study, The American Scandinavian Foundation, Finlandia Club, World Congress of Faiths, etc. He was honored with International Professional of the Year-2005 award by International Biographical Centre of England; has been nominated for Great Minds of the 21st Century by American Biographical Institute; and listed in Who's Who in America.

He has received Volunteer Achievement Award from California Credit Union League, Meritorious Service Award from California State Employees Credit Union for distinguished service on its Board of Directors, Presidential Sports Award, Best Journalist of the Year Award, and has been honored by Graduate Student Association of University of Nevada-Reno for contribution to students and the university. He possesses MBA from University of Nevada-Reno; Master of Science in Mass Communications from San Jose State University, California; and Bachelor of Journalism degree from Panjab University, Chandigarh.

He lives in Reno with wife Shipa, a community volunteer; son Navgeet, a youth activist; and daughter Palkin, an accomplished author of two published books.
