Shell to increase competitiveness of four Indian refineries

Mumbai, Feb 19 (UNI) Shell Global solutions has signed an agreement with the Centre for High technology, India (CHT) with the intent to increase the efficiency and competitiveness of four major Indian refineries.

The contract which is a three year integrated Business improvement Programme was awarded following a two year benchmarking review on all Indian public sector refineries.

The integrated business improvement programme includes margin improvements, energy, efficiency and operational reliability, and it is expected to offer a significant operational income improvement over three years.

Vice president of sales, marketing and consultancy of Shell Global solutions, Wayne Hutchinson, told mediapersons that globally there is a clear need to implement practical and effective measures to increase energy efficiency, reduce energy consumption and minise harmful emisions.

Refineries in India recognise this and are stepping up efforts to be socialy and environmentally resposnible whilst striving to enhance their final performance, he said.

The four identified refiniries under the Indian public sector Oil Group are the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (Mathura refinery), Chennai Petroleum Corporation ltd (Manali refineery), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation ltd (Visakh refinery) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation ltd (Kochi refinery). The refineries currently supply about 25 per cent of the refined petroleum products like gasoline, aviation fuel and diesel to the local Indian market.
