Policeman shot himself dead: Meghalaya

Shillong, Feb 19: A policeman today shot himself dead with his own service Self Loading Rifle.

The incident occurred in the early morning in Shillong civil hospital when armed constable D Kharpran was guarding the under trial prisoners, who were being treated in the hospital.

''I saw him shooting himself with his revolver,'' an eyewitness told UNI here.

When contacted, East Khasi Hills District Superintendent of Police A R Mawthoh denied that it was due to"stress".

''We cannot comment on the incident,'' Mr Mawthoh said, adding that investigation was on to find out the reasons behind the incident.
