Oppn walk out over Dalits issue, 'corruption' in project

Hyderabad, Feb 19 (UNI) The main Opposition Telugu Desam today staged walkouts in the Assembly over alleged inadequate compensation for Dalits whose lands had been acquired for various projects and against 'irregularities' in an irrigation project.

TDP Legislature Party Deputy Leader N Jardhana Reddy alleged irregularities in the Rs 231 crore Kawakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme. 'It is not Jalayaganam, but Dhanayaganam,' he charged before leading his party members out of the house.

Replying to a question from Dr Reddy and other TDP members, Major Irrigation Minister P Lakshmaiah denied any irregularities and placed on the table of the house the details of the value quoted for each package for investigation and estimates in EPC tenders.

Earlier, the TDP alongwith the TRS, CPI(M) and the BJP walked out of the house in protest against 'inadequate' compensation for Dalits whose lands had been acquired for various projects.
