Mamata progressing well

Kolkata, Feb 19 (UNI) Though setting aflame the political scene with bitter verbal attacks against the CPI(M)-led government, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today received bouquets from unexpected quarters--veteran Marxist leader Jyoti Basu and Left Front Chairman Biman Basu--as she was recuperating after surgery in a city nursing home.

Sending the bouquets separately, both the leaders wished her speedy recovery after the gall bladder operation that she underwent yesterday, Trinamool Congress leader Madan Mitra said.

The doctors attending on the Trinamool leader said she was stable and progressing well, though on oxygen and saline support.

A laperoscopic operation was performed on Ms Banerjee yesterday after she got admission to the south Kolkata nursing home following pain in the abdomen. The surgeons removed stones from her gall bladder putting at rest the prolonged ailment she had been suffering from.

Nursing home sources said she would be kept for another day or two for observation.
