Cold wave after snowfall at Vaishno Devi
Jammu, Feb 19 (UNI) An intense cold wave gripped the entire region as light to moderate snowfall was experienced in the upper reaches of the Trikuta Mountain at the Shri Mata Vaishnodevi temple while rainfall occurred in the plains last evening. The temperature dipped to 90 degrees Celsius.
Indian Meteorological Department sources said higher reaches of the state, particularly the Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine areas and Peer Panjal range in Jammu region also experienced light to moderate snowfall.
They, however, said despite the sunshine, snowfall and subsequent winds brought temperatures down. The prevailing icy winds disrupted normal life with people preferring to stay indoors because of intense cold wave conditions.
