Ahmedabad, Feb 19 (UNI) The Gujarat police have arrested five people in connection with the robbery at the residence of a leading businessman at Mithakali here in the city recently.

Jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh, cash to the tune of Rs 25,000 and a car worth Rs 4 lakh were looted from the residence of Pradeepbhai Deepakbhai Shah, who owns the Deepkala Showroom here, after attacking the businessman and his family members.

The five arrested have been identified as Raju Thakur, Chiku Mahatre, Bhagwandas Maththar, Sandeep, and Nitin Malviya.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhay Chudasama told mediapersons that Mr Shah had employed Nitin Malviya as a security guard at his residence through a security agency. On inquiring with the agency people, it was revealed that Malviya was earlier employed as a peon at the Jabalpur railway station. ''Our team was sent to Jabalpur and Malviya was nabbed,'' Mr Chudasma said.

A large part of the loot was recovered from Malviya's possession, Mr Chudasma said.

Mr Chudasma claimed that upon interrogation, Malviya has confessed to the crime. The others were arrested subsequently following his interrogation. Malviya had told his other acomplices that he would be going to Delhi but had reached Jabalpur instead in order to sell off the loot, Mr Chudasma said.
