2 car bombs kill five in east Baghdad: Police
Baghdad, Feb 18: Two car bombs exploded in quick succession on a main road in eastern Baghdad today, killing five people and wounding 10, police said.
A Reuters photographer embedded with a US military unit said the cars appeared to detonate as the soldiers passed by in the New Baghdad area. There was no immediate word on any American casualties.
It was one of the worst such attacks in recent days in Baghdad and comes amid a stepped-up offensive by tens of thousands of US and Iraqi troops to quell sectarian violence in the capital.
Violence has dropped off markedly since Operation Imposing Law got under way. The operation was formally launched last Wednesday.
