Suicide car bomber rams Baghdad checkpoint

BAGHDAD, Feb 18 (Reuters) A car packed with explosives blew up when the driver rammed a police checkpoint in the Shi'ite district of Sadr City in Baghdad today, police said.

There was no immediate word of casualties. Sadr City is a sprawling slum in eastern Baghdad that is a stronghold of the Mehdi Army militia of anti-American cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.
