Scribe among two dead in road accident
Vadodara, Feb 18 (UNI) Goutam Upadhyaya, a Vadodara-based senior correspondent of local daily 'Divya Bhaskar', along with his cousin were killed and the journalist's wife was seriously injured when the car carrying them skidded off the road and turned turtle on the Mahatma Gandhi Expressway near Ahmedabad.
Police said the accident took place last night when one of the rear tyres of the car burst soon after hitting the road divider and dragging the vehicle 50 metres away. Both the journalist and his cousin, Samir Purani, died on the spot.
His wife Anita was rushed to a private hospital in Ahmedabad where her condition was stated to be critical.
The victims were returning to Vadodara after celebrating Shivratri in their native village Sipore in the Mehsana district.
Upadhyaya (42), who was recently elected Senate to the Baroda M S University for the second consecutive term, is survived by his wife and two daughters.
